Fixed prosthetic restorations, metal-free and metal-ceramic crowns and bridges

Fixed prosthetic restorations are those that are permanently cemented onto existing prepared teeth or implants. The group of fixed prosthetic restorations includes crowns (caps) and bridges. Depending on the material from which they are made, crowns and bridges can be metal-ceramic or metal-free restorations. Metal-ceramic restorations have a metal core as the base, with ceramic on the outside. However, due to the metal base, these restorations lack the transparency level of natural teeth, so to achieve a higher aesthetic result, metal-free restorations are increasingly recommended.

Crowns are prosthetic restorations that restore the original appearance and function of a tooth with their shape, size, and appearance.

Bridges are fixed prosthetic restorations that replace one or more missing teeth.

Removable dentures

Removable prosthetic restorations, as their name suggests, are prosthetic replacements that can be removed for oral hygiene maintenance. The role of removable prosthetic restorations is to replace all tissues in the mouth (hard and soft) and restore lost function and aesthetic appearance to the patient. Removable prosthetics include complete and partial dentures.

Complete dentures are made of acrylic and are used in cases of complete edentulism, i.e., when all teeth are missing in the jaw.

Partial acrylic dentures are used when a certain number of teeth are present in the jaw, but not enough to create a fixed prosthetic restoration.

Combined restorations

As the name suggests, combined restorations are a combination of fixed prosthetic restorations and removable prosthetic restorations. Combined restorations provide better stability for removable prosthetics and improve aesthetics. This group includes partial skeletal dentures with clasps or attachments combined with fixed prosthetics, as well as telescopic dentures.

Veneers

Veneers, or so-called laminates, are thin ceramic shells that adapt to the front surface of the tooth. This type of veneer is typically applied to the front teeth, as it provides high aesthetic value by changing the shape, color, and size of the tooth. Unlike traditional crowns, a minimal amount of tooth structure is removed when making ceramic veneers. However, not every tooth is suitable for veneers, which should be considered.
